Peace with God

We know that we are living in troubling times; the economy is tight, jobs are scarce, corruption and crime is all around us. The world is not a safe place with wars, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and hunger. Hate seems to be the rule of the day.

However, we can still experience true inner peace in the midst of trouble,
by being right with God.

To be right with God and experience His peace, we must first realize that we all fall short of the high standard God has set. Falling short is called sin. We can never be good enough or do enough good to earn God’s favor.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”  Romans 3:23

“If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
1 John 1:10

There is a penalty for falling short of God’s high standard. That penalty is death, but God loves us so much that He provided His one and only Son, Jesus, to take our place. His shed blood on the cross was the payment for the penalty of our sins.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.  Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

Jesus is the only way for us to come to God. Only in Jesus can we have true life.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:6

We must receive Jesus by faith, and accept what he has done for us.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name“  John 1:12

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Romans 10:9-10

When Jesus is truly received by faith, He passes on to us His peace, and we know that all of our eternity will be safe in His hands.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”,  Romans 5:1

“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:7
